FARA’s Oat Farm
Changes at Oat Farm
The OAT (Organic, Agricultural, Training) farm is situated in the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains in North Eastern Romania, close to FARA's childcare programmes and has been running as an ecological farm for six years. The farm comprises 75 acres of arable land, growing mainly fruit and vegetables, some under poly-tunnels. We also have a herd of milking cattle, as well as pigs and chickens. The produce provides food to FARA’s residential homes. At the end of 2009, the Trustees made the decision to close the commercial activities at the Oat Farm; however the training centre continues for students from the local state orphanage. This beautiful building will be transformed into a second residential home for young adults with learning difficulties, which is so desperately needed and is planned to open during 2010.
