New Community Based Care Project

In 2010 FARA is developing their new Community Based Care Programme to extend education for children living in poverty and increase the social inclusion of Roma children. We are now able to help many more children to attend primary schools in the Suceava district. We have also opened a Community Centre offering therapies and special needs education to children with complex needs living in rural areas. This includes an outreach programme where families are visited and supported.

Owing to the economic situation in Romania, there is a desperate need for FARA to help the poorest families and vulnerable children with disabilities – there is no government funding available at present for this project.

Bike RideEssex to Asia Charity Cycle 2010

This summer, James Keable and Linton Nightingale will cycle from Braintree in Essex to Istanbul. The aim of the trip will be to raise over £1,000 for FARA plus funds for a second charity and they hope to visit our programmes in Bucharest en route through Romania.

You can donate to their fundraising effort on (www.virginmoneygiving.com/team/lintonandjames).

We are extremely grateful to James and Linton and wish them all the best of luck on their journey.

Sandringham Fundraising Event

A fundraising event was held at Sandringham, by kind permission of Her Majesty the Queen, in March 2010; Rohan McCullough, a well known actress, gave an outstanding solo performance of Vera Brittain’s Testatment of Youth.

FARA raised over £4,000 towards their new projects in Romania.

Gabriela at FARAFARA changes Lives

Gabriela, formerly mute, is now able to talk … When she arrived at St. Raphael, FARA’s new home for young adults with learning difficulties, Gabriella was still unable to talk at the age of 18. With the help on U.K. health professionals and the Sound Learning therapy, she has started to communicate. Gabriela’s miraculous transformation is not the only one. Many of the residents – all young adults from appalling state institutions – have shown dramatic improvements in behaviour. We are particularly proud that this project is providing hope and loving care for those who would never have dreamt of receiving it.
