Let it snow, let it snow!

The 12 residents of St Gabriels went in search of snow to Campina, in the hills north of Bucharest. At first they were disappointed, and then (in the words of home manager Margareta Ivan) ‘One morning, when we least expected it, the snow began - large, heavy flakes falling from the sky. The children started to sing and it was all I could do to persuade them to eat before going out with their toboggans.’

Three of the children at St. Nicholas are members of the Suceava branch of the Scouts and joined them in the Carpathian mountains for an exciting programme of mountain hikes, games, and campfire songs. They also learned how to use a compass and received some basic first aid training – ready for the time when they are old enough to take to the hills on their own.
