Football friendly boosts funds for FARA

Scottish Premiership football team Inverness Caledonian Thistle recently played their first ever away European match, against Astra Giurgiu in Romania. Supporters Clare and Eric McCabe organised buses to transport over 300 fans to and from Bucharest for the match – a real labour of love! While the fans all had a great few days in Bucharest, most of them witnessed at some point during their visit the heartbreaking sight of children sleeping in the streets. They were shocked to realise that these conditions are still common in Romania.

With over £600 unspent from the bus money the fans decided they would donate the surplus to a Romanian children’s charity. The McCabes felt that FARA’s aims and values fitted the bill and very kindly offered the money. And on hearing of this, Inverness Caledonian Thistle Football Club also confirmed that it would top this up to make a total donation of £1000.

A huge thank you to the McCabes, ‘Caley Thistle’ fans and the club itself for their generosity – helping to bring a brighter future to Romania’s vulnerable and forgotten children.
