A new child sponsorship scheme has been launched by FARA. Aimed at alleviating child poverty in desperately poor villages in north-east Romania the scheme will promote school attendance and family welfare.
Commenting on the launch, Jane Nicholson, FARA's Chairman and Founder said:
'I'm convinced that sponsorship can make a real difference to children's prospects. We are looking at a region where 25% of children are cared for by grandparents and 50% of children have parents who didn't attend school and are illiterate. Everyone at FARA is confident that the publicity campaign will succeed in recruiting a new and enthusiastic band of sponsors.'
Fiorentina's story, copied below, highlights the challenges faced by village children.
Sponsors joining the scheme will receive letters and photographs from their sponsored child giving an insight into hope their donations are helping them along their educational journey.
An e-flyer promoting the scheme has been mailed to FARA's growing list of supporters and visitors to FARA's JustGiving Direct Debit page can be enrolled as sponsors by committing to £10 or more in monthly donations.
