Project Swallow...

FARA Spring / Summer 09 NewsletterEarly in 2009, FARA received an offer from two specialist teachers from the Sunderland Council to provide us with equipment and training in special needs education for our Samuel Centre.

As a result they have now visited the Samuel Centre twice during the summer and provided chairs and equipment, not available in Romania, to the children at the centre.

They have named this as the Project Swallow and are now undertaking fund raising in Sunderland to finance future visits and are very keen to involve more staff from the Children’s Services in the City of Sunderland. They plan to make three further trips during 2010. This project will provide sustainable support for FARA in the form of resources for children to aid their daily living and also offer training for colleagues in Romania.

They are extremely enthusiastic, energetic and dedicated and FARA is delighted to have been chosen for this partnership which will make an enormous difference to the quality of life of our children with disabilities.

Royal Patron visits FARA’s children - 2003

OAT farmIn May 2003, our Royal Patron, HRH The Prince of Wales visited Romania and met FARA’s children at St Nicholas home where he was entertained with traditional dance and songs.

Later that day, the Prince visited FARA’s new initiative OAT (Organic, Agricultural, Training) Farm and took a great interest in the development of this project – a happy and memorable day for all involved.

Nichole Kidman - 2003

OAT farmDuring the filming of Cold Mountain, Jane Nicholson and several of FARA’s children met Nicole Kidman along with other stars and the crew of the film while on location in the Carpathian Mountains. In December 2003, she attended the premier of the film in Leicester Square.

Following the visit to Romania, Nicole Kidman agreed to become a Patron of our charity. The support and encouragement we have received from Nicole, together with our other Patrons and many friends, make it possible for FARA to continue their work, bringing love and security to vulnerable children in Romania.
