St Nicholas makes a visit

Hopeful shoes await festive treats

Each year the children in Romania, and across Europe, leave their shoes or boots out on the eve of December 5th, in the hope St. Nicholas will visit and leave gifts and treats. The children in our Saint Nicholas home in Suceava, Northern Romania, and in St. Gabriel’s in Bucharest were very excited!

First, they make sure to give their shoes a thorough clean, to show St. Nicholas they have been good, well-behaved children. Then the shoes are left in a neat row near the front door and the children go off to bed to dream about what they might find in the morning.

The children were all thrilled to wake on December 6th to find their sparklingly clean shoes and boots merrily filled with delights! Thank you, St. Nicholas!
