FARA founder Jane Nicholson steps down as Trustee
Jane Nicholson has stepped down from the board of trustees of FARA in the UK but will continue to play an ambassadorial role for the charity, which she founded in 1991, and she will also remain President of Fundația FARA, our partner organisation which delivers our programmes in Romania.
Jane founded FARA after working in Romania following the fall of the regime of Nicolae Ceaușescu and seeing at first hand the appalling cruelty inflicted within state run orphanages during the dictatorship.
Under her inspirational leadership, over the past 33 years FARA has grown to be one of the largest and most experienced NGO care providers in Romania, giving support to vulnerable children, young people and adults, as well as their families. Jane was awarded the MBE in 2013 for her work in Romania.
‘I thank all the wonderful supporters who have supported our wonderful children and families in Romania, changing lives and giving hope for a better future,’ Jane said. ‘I hope and pray that you will continue to support FARA.’
Since FARA was founded, we have supported over 11,000 beneficiaries and employed over 300 members of staff in Romania in our core programmes. In the UK, FARA operates 40 charity shops in London, which provide funding for the programmes.
