Update on FARA’s Ukraine Activity

Since March 2022, The FARA Foundation has been able to provide support to over 1700 refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has created one of the largest, and most devastating, humanitarian crises in Europe’s recent history with thousands killed and millions of Ukrainians displaced.

According to UNHCR, as of 15th August 2022, 6.6 million Ukrainians had fled across Europe, with over 1 million of those crossing into Romania along its borders.

With many areas of Ukraine utterly destroyed with little to no infrastructure left, over 84,000 Ukrainian refugees have remained in Romania, and will continue to do so until it is safe for them to return home.

The FARA Foundation was quick to answer the call to help those crossing the Ukraine-Romania border at Siret. And so, aided by the generous donations to our ‘Solidarity with Ukraine’ appeal (you raised over £20,000!) we have been able to provide the following humanitarian support to over 1700 refugees:

  • 850 received assistance directly at the borders
  • 130 housed in our transit centres, with over 2500 meals served
  • 277 children have been supplied with toys and clothing. 60 of whom were able to enjoy social activities and playdates, organised by FARA.
  • Over 200 adults and 52 children received medical support and medication
  • In addition to this medical aid, we were able to provide 30 refugees with psychological therapy, to help them begin to cope with the devastating mental effects of the conflict.
  • Happily, we were also able to help reunite 20 refugees with families overseas
  • With the added support of partners and sponsors in Romania, FARA was also able to participate in sending 7 envoy with 10 tons of supplies to affected areas within Ukraine.

Thank you to everyone who donated to our appeal, and to our amazing colleagues and volunteers on the ground in Romania, for all the incredible work you do, every single day.
